Mini-Mods

General: 4 or 6 cylinder motors allowed, no V8 engines. No full framed cars. Vehicles MUST have secure DOT approved seat belts. A 2.5 lb. dry chemical fire extinguishers inside car is highly recommended.

Stripping: all glass, plastic, fiberglass, chrome and moldings must be removed prior to arriving. No flammable materials such as carpets, upholstery or headliners can be left in the car. Cars must be clean and free of all loose objects inside and in the trunk area. Both rear seats and insulation blanket under the hood must be removed. Dashboards may be taken out.

Body: no welding of interior seams. Wheel wells may be cut up to 3″ maximum to allow for tire clearance. Maximum of 8 bolts per wheel well. Sunroofs must be filled with a security sheet. Front lower fender may be cut or folded to allow tire clearance – you may use up to 2 bolts maximum, no welding. Rubber body mounts may be removed, body bolts may be replaced with stock or up to 5/8″ maximum bolts maybe be lengthened to travel through TOP HALF of frame and inside vehicle only with 3″ nuts and washers. Equal size flat stock drilled out as washer is acceptable. NO ADDITIONAL BODY BOLS MAY BE ADDED ANYWHERE. Rust spots can be fixed but seam thickness must remain consistent.

Hood: Hood MUST have 10″-12″ hole on either side of air cleaner if the exhaust is NOT run through the hood. Hood may be secured in 6 spots by bolts, chains or #9 wire, chain and wire NOT to exceed 3 loops. Bolts or threaded rod may not exceed 1″ in diameter and not to exceed 6″ above hood and a maximum length of 30″ total. ONLY 2 bolts of threaded rod may connect to the frame. Front 2 bolts or threaded rods may be welded to the frame but not to exceed weld of 6” only and may be welded on both sides of rod. All threaded rod must run vertically from frame to hood. No bending around frame will be permitted. If you’re NOT running threaded rod through the front core support mounts. Washers or metal plates may not exceed 6”x6” in diameter and ½” thick. Chain or wiring may not attach to the frame but can attach to the bumper through the upper core support and hood. Chain or wire may not exceed 36” in length and no more than 3 loops. Secure hood only AFTER your car passes tech inspection. NO chains or wire around the frame. You may use up to 25 – 3/8” bolts to fasten the two layers of hood together with 3/8” washers.

Trunk and tailgate: Trunk must be empty of dirt and debris. Trunks may be tucked up to 50% or V-wedged but taillight panels must remain vertical. On tailgates you may weld 2 plates of steel per vertical seam NO larger than 4”x4”x1/4” Trunk may be secured in 5 spots per seam by bolts, chain, or #9 wire. Wire or chain not to exceed more than 3 loops. Bolts not to exceed over 6” above trunk lid and a maximum length of 30” total ONLY 2 bolts or threaded rods can connect to the frame and must remain horizontal. You may weld to frame but welds may not exceed 6” and may be welded on both sides of the rod. All threaded rods must run vertically from frame to trunk lid. NO BENDING AROUND THE FRAME WILL BE ALLOWED. Plates are not to exceed 6”x6” in diameter and ¼” thick. Taillight panels must remain vertical in all classes. Trunk may be welded 5” on, 5” off.

Doors: All doors must be chained closed or welded. The drivers may be welded completely closed. All other doors may be welded 5 on, 5 off. NO WELDING ON THE INSIDE OF DOORS

Windows: 2 vertical steel bars MUT be ran from the roof of the car down to the body (not the hood) in front of the driver. Nylon racing type nets are recommended, but you must be able to remove them quickly in case of an emergency. DO NOT COVER DRIVRS WINDOW WITH MESH OR STEEL TYPE MATERIALS FOR SAFETY REASONS. NO #9 wire in any of the windows.

BUMPERS: Bumpers may be any year and any make automotive type bumper. Bumpers may be reinforced. Home built bumpers will be allowed. Any homemade pointy bumpers may not exceed 2 ½’ wide and 5” deep from center and not to exceed 1/4” thick. NO welding bumpers to body. Maximum bumper height is 22” max and 15” minimum from the ground to the bottom of the bumper. 4”x4”x1/4” tube bumpers are allowed.

INTERIOR: holes may be cut in firewall to allow distributor cap or other components to move beyond the firewall. Driver’s seat and DOT approved seats belts must be securely mounted. You can put in a 3 point harness.

CHASSIS and FRAME: frame must be from the same make and model vehicles with the similar frame to body bolt pattern. An example of this is Lumina to Lumina or Taurus to Taurus. Vehicle must have factory core supports. No filling frame with any type of material. No adding any metal. No laser cutting the frame, sand blasting, undercoating, or painting will be allowed. Welding on or to the frame are indicated in specific cases throughout the rules. No welding frame to body. Interior bars consist of one bar across the dash, and another no more than 12” behind the driver’s seat and must be at least 8” from floor and remain horizontal. Door bars may be mounted with 6” maximum plates welded or bolted at each end. Any size bars up to 6” in diameter are acceptable. Bars must be welded or bolted to the inside of the car. 4 down legs off door bars, 2 per side, welded to sheet metal only, not the frame. Can’t be any further than front door post. Roll over bars MUST remain vertically ONLY, and may NOT add support to any other part of car. You may bolt the roll over bar to the roof with 2 bolts, roll over bar may not attach your frame and may not run any type of kickers off your roll over bar. Trailer hitches must be removed. Rear window bars allowed running from roof to in between the trunk and the speaker deck. Speaker decks must remain original but can be dished up to 10”.

ROLL CAGES ARE HIHGLY ENCOURAGED IN THIS CLASS.

ENGINE: you can run carbs but it must be 4 or 6 cycle. No diesels. Motors may be chained to the frame and motor mounts may be altered and strengthened provided this does not strengthen the frame or other non-related mounting components. Carburetor must have air filter. No ether. Hand throttles are acceptable. Header stacks are permitted and must be completely vertical.

RADIATOR: Radiator must be located in stock position. No radi-barrels or other homemade type radiators. Radiator protectors are allowed. Steel mesh or similar material may be used but no larger than stock radiator size. Radiator protection may not attach to the frame. Core support only. Core support may be secured by replacing factory bolts to frame with maximum 1” diameter bolts. You may remove core support to frame mounts and bolt solid through top and bottom frame. You may not reinforce or add any metal to core support other than washer and tabs for hood securing purposes. Nylon straps, bolts, steel band, chain or wire may only be used to support radiator. Please flush out coolant before running, water only. If you run a radiator fan, you must run a hood.

TRANSMISSION: Transmission coolers acceptable. Cooler may be mounted inside the car but MUST BE NO LONGER THAN 24”x24”x18”, this means that the complete unit including the box around the cooler not to exceed these dimensions. ALL LINES TRAVELING INSIDE IF DRIVERS COMPARTMENT< MUST USE METAL LINES OR HIGH PRESSURE HYDRAULIC LINES< AND RUN THROUGH SOME FORM OF ANOTHER HOSE. If it doesn’t pass inspection we will ask you to loop it off. Shifting linkage may be altered, but cannot post any kind of safety risk to driver. Transmission mounts may be altered providing this does not strengthen the frame. 2” gap between cross members.

GAS TANK: 6 gallon fuel cell high recommended. Original gas tank must be removed and you may not use original fuel tank inside the car, NO EXCEPTIONS! Tank may be no larger than 10 gallons and must be metal, no plastic or jerry cans. Tanks must be securely mounted and all connections must be secure and leak proof. Stop check valves are highly recommended. Gas tanks must be completely covered. Pump fuel only (no alcohol or methanol). Rubber fuel lines are recommended from gas tank to fuel pump. Electric fuel pumps MUST HAVE A SHUT OFF SWITCH within drivers reach and clearly marked for fire offices. NO PLASTIC LINES> Gas spillage will result in disqualification. Gas tank protector 24” wide can be tight to sheet metal but pound sheet metal.

BRAKES must be functional in the start of every heat or feature.

TIRES AND RIMS: Any ply 14” or 15” tires are permitted. Double tires, tire inside of tires), rubber inner liners or solid rubber tires are acceptable. No studded tires, No wheel weights, double rims or split rims. 8” wheel centers are allowed. Glue may be used to secure tire to rim – no screws, rivers, or bead locks. Valve stem guards are permitted. Everything must meet official’s approval.
