Mid-size/compact

Compact (4 cylinder max 104″ wheel base) & Mid-size (6 cylinder) no full frames

Stripping: all glass, plastic, fiberglass, and chrome moldings MUST be removed prior to arrival at facility. Station wagon rear floor door must be removed. Remove all broken glass from inside doors. No flammable materials such as carpets, upholstery, or headliners can be left in car. Cars MUST be clean and free of loose objects inside and in the trunk areas. Both rear seat and insulation blanket under the hood must be removed. Dash boards may be removed.

BODY: NO welding of interior seams. Wheel wells maybe cut. Sunroofs must be filled with a security fastened sheet. Front lower fenders maybe cut or folded to allow tire clearance. You may use, two bolts maximum, no welding. Rust spot may not be fixed other than floorboard holes.

Hood: hood must have 10”-12” hole on either side of air cleaner if the exhaust is not run through the hood. Hood may be secured in 6 spots by bolts, chains, or #9 wire; you may only use up to 3 loops. Hood hinges count as 2 secured point. Bolts or threaded rod may not exceed 1” in diameter and not to extend 6” above hood and a total length of 39” in diameter. Only 2 bolts or threaded rod maybe connected to the frame. Front 2 bolts or threaded rods may be welded to frame but not to exceed weld of 6” only and may be welded on both sides of rods. All threaded rod must run vertical from frame to hood. NO bending around frame is permitted. Washers or metal plates may not exceed 6”x6” in diameter and1/2” thick. Chain or wire may not exceed 36” in length and more than 3 loops. Secure your hood only AFTER you pass inspection. No chain or wire around your frame. You may use up to (8) 3/8 bolts to fasten the two layers of hood together. You can run rods through core supports.

Trunks and Tailgates: Trunks MUST be empty and free of dirt and debris. Trunks may be tucked up to 50% but no wedging, it must be secured with either chain, #9 wire or threaded rod. On tailgates you may weld 2 plates of steel per vertical seam NO larger than 4”x4”x ¼. Trunk maybe secured in 4 spots by bolts, chain, or #9 wire. Bolts not to exceed over 6” above trunk lid and maximum length of 30” total. Only 2 bolts or threaded rods may be connected to frame and must remain horizontal. You may weld to frame but welds not to exceed weld of 6” only and may be welded on both sides of rod. All threaded rods must run vertical from frame to trunk lid NO bending around frame will be permitted. Chains and wires are not to exceed 24” in length and not to wrap around more than twice. Washers or metal plates may not exceed 6”x6” in diameter and ½” thick.

Doors: All doors must be chained closed. The driver’s door may be welded completely closed. Driver’s door may be closed ONLY with a steel rod 3/8” thick or less or 3” metal band ¼” thick and may be welded solid. NO welding on inside of doors. All remaining doors must be chained up. (2 chains or cables may be used.) Or 5” on and 5” off welds may be used on doors.

Bumpers: Compact class may replace plastic or aluminum bumper with a bumper off a similar make or model of car, or a 4x4x1/4 square tube (open ends). Bumpers off 1980 & new full size cars are permitted, BUT MUST be trimmed to original bumper size. All mounting brackets mounting to the back of the bumper, or frame, or shocks may be welded to secure firmly, but no adding any steel. NO welding bumpers to the body. Shocks may be drained before welding. NO extra added steel to inside of bumpers or inside bumper shocks. NO welding of bumper seams. Thru bolting is acceptable (drilling a hole and running a bolt up and down through shock, to prevent Shock pulling out) or a single strand of chain may be used as a retaining chain- NO wrapping around the bumper. Bumpers may be trimmed. Folding ends are permitted. NO bolting or welding folded ends. Maximum bumper height is 22” from the ground to the bottom of the bumper. Bumpers may be turned upside down or front to back. Washers may be welded over the holes cut or drilled out in bumper for chaining or wiring purpose (3” maximum washers). You are only allowed 6” in the sub frame and you may run your threaded rod through them for safety.

Interior: With exceptions of floor shifters, all large holes in floor pan must be patch with sheet metal. Holes in firewalls will be permitted for distributor clearances. Any holes cut in the firewalls must be protected with nonflammable type material.

Chassis: Vehicle MUST have factory stock, upper and lower core supports- no seam welding on core supports. (NO FILLING FRAME WITH ANY TYPE OF MATERIAL). Interior bars are highly recommended. This consists of one bar across the dash, it MUST remain above factory steering column bracket, and no more than 12” behind the driver seat and it must be 18” from floor and remain horizontal. Bars may be mounted 6” maximum plates welded or bolted on each end. Any size bars up to 6” diameter are acceptable. Bars may be welded or bolted in. Trailer hitches and mounting brackets MUST be removed. You may use stock or modified steering columns. You may replace or modify knuckles and/or joints in steering assembly.

Rear suspension: Bumper height is 22” from ground to bottom of bumper and it is strictly enforced.

Engines: NO engine or pulley protectors allowed. Carburetor must have air filter. NO ether. Hand throttles are acceptable, headers and stacks are permitted, but must be completely vertical. If cars came fuel injected, they must remain fuel injected. Cars must remain stock motor.

Radiator: Radiator must be in stock position. No radi-barrels or other homemade type radiators. You may not reinforce or add any metal to core support. Nylon straps, bolts, steel bands or wire may be used to support radiator. WATER ONLY, please flush out coolant. If you run a fan you must run a hood.

Electrical: Two (2) 12 V or heavy equipment batteries are permitted. Batteries must be located inside of your car on passenger’s floor, it must be securely mounted with a four point hold down on each and both must be covered. Battery in boxes must be secured. Push button or toggle ignition and power hot wiring is both acceptable. Solenoid, voltage regulators, coils, and other electrical components may be relocated. Components may be in closed, but not in such a way to strengthen the car. All fuses must be removed except for the gauges charging the ignition system and electric radiator fan.

Transmission: transmission coolers are acceptable. Cooler may be mounted inside the car but MUST BE NO LONGER THAN 24”x24”x18”, this means that the complete unit including the box around the cooler not to exceed these dimensions. ALL LINES TRAVELING INSIDE IF DRIVERS COMPARTMENT, MUST USE METAL LINES OR HIGH PRESSURE HYDRAULIC LINES, AND RUN THROUH SOME FORM OF ANOTHER HOSE. If it doesn’t pass inspection we will ask you to loop it off.

Gas tank: six-gallon fuel cell highly recommended. Original gas tank must be removed, and you may not use original fuel tank inside the car, NO EXCEPTIONS! Tank may be no larger than 6 gallons and must be metal, no plastic or jerry cans. Tanks must be securely mounted and all connections must be secure and leak proof. Stop check valves are highly recommended. Gas tanks must be completely covered. Pump fuel only, (no Alcohol or methanol). Rubber fuel lines are recommended from gas tank to fuel pump. Electric fuel pumps MUST HAVE A SHUT OFF SWITCH. Within drivers reach and clearly marked for fire officials. NO PLASTIC LINES. Gas spillage will result in disqualification.

Brakes: must be functional in the start of every heat.

Tires & Rims: Any ply, 12, 13”, 14”, or 15” tires are permitted. Maximum allowance of 25” tall and 7” width double tires (tires inside tires), rubber inner-liners or solid rubber tires are acceptable. NO STUDDED TIRES, NO WHEEL WEIGHTS, DOUBLE RIMS OR SPLIT RIMS. No screws, rivets, or bead locks to secure tires to rim. Valve stem guards are permitted. Outside lugs on aggressive tires must be trimmed.

You may run rear window bar from roof to speaker deck. Do not attach it to the trunk.
No welding of cradles or sub frames!
